The link holds the board exactly as it is now. Whoever opens it gets their own copy; their changes don't affect yours. If you change the board after sharing, copy the link again.

Drag players and opponents to move them. Drop one player on another to swap them, e.g. a sub onto the player coming off; swapping removes their lines. Boards are saved in this browser only.

A free field hockey tactics board

Plan your team's shape, set plays and movement on a to-scale 11-a-side hockey pitch. Drag players and opponents into position, draw passes, runs and dribbles, and send the board to your squad as a link or a picture.

It's a digital version of the magnetic coaching whiteboard: it runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or laptop, with nothing to install and no account to create. Use it pitch-side, at half-time, or the night before a match to put your field hockey tactics in front of the team.

What the tactics board does

  • Formations in one tap. Add a starting XI in a 4-3-3 and an opposing XI facing you, then drag players to try a 3-5-2, a 4-4-2 or your own structure.
  • Passes, runs and dribbles. Drag the arrow from a player onto a teammate for a pass, or into space for a run (dashed) or a dribble (wavy).
  • A subs bench. Keep substitutes beside the pitch and drop a sub onto the player coming off to make the change.
  • As many boards as you need. One for each formation, set piece or opponent, saved in your browser. Duplicate a board to try a variation without losing the original.
  • Share with your team. Copy a link that opens the exact board, or save it as a JPEG for the team chat, a match report or a coaching session plan.
  • An accurate pitch. 91.4 m by 55 m with FIH markings: the 23 m lines, shooting circles, the dotted 5 m line, penalty spots and the back-line and side-line marks.

Field hockey tactics to plan on it

Penalty corners

Set out your attacking corner routine, from the injector and the stopper to the battery and the deflection runners, and plan who runs where on your defensive corners.

Pressing and defensive shape

Show where the forwards start a full press or a half-court press, which way you channel the ball, and how the midfield and backs shift behind them.

Building out from the back

Draw the passing lanes for outletting from the back four or a back three, and the runs that open them up, against the opposition's press.

Free hits, long corners and restarts

Plan where everyone stands for free hits in the attacking 23, long corners and centre passes, so the whole team knows the move before it happens.

Coaching and team talks

Explain positions to new or junior players, walk through a drill before a training session, or show at half-time what needs to change.

Questions

Is the field hockey tactics board free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with nothing to install and no account to create.

Does the tactics board work on a phone?

Yes. It is built for touch: drag players with a finger, and touch the grass to scroll the page as normal. On a laptop or tablet the pitch sits beside the controls.

Where are my boards saved?

In the browser on the device you're using. To move a board to another device, copy its link and open it there. Clearing your browser's site data removes saved boards.

If I send a board to my team, can they change mine?

No. Whoever opens the link gets their own copy, and their changes don't affect yours. If you change the board after sharing it, copy the link again.

Is this for ice hockey?

No, it's for field hockey, the game called simply hockey in the UK, Europe, India, Australia and much of the world. The pitch is the outdoor 11-a-side field, drawn to scale.
